David G. Armstrong, Professor of Surgery and Director of the Southern Arizona Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA) became the first podiatric surgeon to deliver grand grounds to the University of Southern California’s Department of Surgery. “Dr. Armstrong is the leading figure in diabetic limb salvage, worldwide”, noted Professor Fred Weaver, Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at USC in his opening remarks “We are honored to have him with us today.” Armstrong, who attended USC as a rotating student, was equally sanguine “To see this medical center and its clinics some three decades after first visiting is not only impressive, but it’s heartening. I see a place where people are making a difference at a high level.” The lecture, which also included visits to USC and LA County clínics throughout the Southland, focused on strides made in amputation prevention, tissue repair and next generation research and development at the University of Arizona and other programs around the world.
