A North American Free Toes Alliance? That’s the aim of Pan American Diabetes Amputation Symposium

Los Cabos, Mexico was the venue for an important pan American

symposium dedicated to diabetes and amputation prevention this week.

Hosted by the Mexican Diabetic Foot Society of the Mexican College of

Physicians and Surgeons, the program featured speakers from the

Americas and Europe. Features speakers included renowned vascular

surgeon Joseph Mills, podiatric surgeons Robert Frykberg and David

Armstrong, as well as Endocrinologist Giacomo Clerici.

“We have proposed forming our own NAFTA” noted David G. Armstrong,

Professor of Surgery and Director of the Southern Arizona Limb Salvage

Alliance (SALSA) during his keynote address, “This North American Free

Toes Alliance, if you will, would focus on free trade of ideas,

training teams and technology across borders”.

The program, which concludes tomorrow, included plans for a pan

American summit next year in Cartagena, Colombia.
