The American Diabetes Association hosted its 8th annual “Best of ADA India” series this year in simultaneous symposia throughout the nation of more than 1 billion. “This was an impressive undertaking”, noted David G. Armstrong, Professor of Surgery and Director of the University of Arizona’s Southern Arizona Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA). “With well more than 100 million citizens of India with either diabetes or pre-diabetes, we all have a great deal of work to do”. Armstrong was one of four featured US speakers in standing-room-only meetings in Bangalore and Mumbai. All told, the speakers presented to thousands of clinicians in four days spanning the entire nation. Armstrong continued, “This is the kind of effort that pays off slowly but is fulfilling and life-affirming instantly.” In addition to Armstrong’s participation, symposia in Bangalore features US Professors Peter Reaven, Jane Reusch and Hermes Florez from the Universities of Arizona, Colorado and Miami, respectively as well as local leaders in each city.
