David G. Armstrong, Professor of Surgery and Director of the Southwestern Academic Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA) called for a worldwide effort to eliminate preventable amputations in people with diabetes over the next generation. “This call, first made by my friend and colleague Pete Lazzarini of Diabetic Foot Australia, is no doubt difficult– but it is in sight.” noted Armstrong, who spoke to a group of more than 1000 clinicians from around the world at the 48th Congress of the Spanish College of Podiatry in Salamanca. “I think that with symposia like this and thanks to people like our symposium co-Chair Dr. Julio Cuadrillero and my friend Jose Luis Lazaro Martinez, we can work together to make this dream a reality– step by step.”
