David G. Armstrong, Professor of Surgery and Director of the Southwestern Academic Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA) at Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California (USC) became the first podiatric surgeon invited to keynote the 8th Balgrist Symposium on the Diabetic Foot. Armstrong was the only external invited speaker. His lecture spanned the history and future of surgical, medical and mechanical management of the high-risk foot and limb preservation. Delegates from Switzerland and across Europe participated in the biennial event. The symposium also included a visiting professor program in the Balgrist’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, where Armstrong presented to assembled physicians, surgeons, and trainees.
