On Integration and Looking Forward

I just stumbled upon the obituary for Dr. Julius Gottlieb in the Washington Post. I was astonished by the work that this pioneering podiatrist did regionally, from being one of the first to fully integrate his waiting room (virtually unheard of in post-war D.C.) to treating members of the Eisenhower White House. It is exactly this kind of integration and forward thinking that needs to continue to take place in the field of amputation prevention and the diabetic foot. It seems particularly apropos now as we move into this historic inaugural season. Here’s to more of that in 2009.  Happy New Year to one and all.
