DAVID G. ARMSTRONG, PROFESSOR OF SURGERY, ADDRESSES THE BRAZILIAN SOCIETY OF ANGIOLOGY AND VASCULAR SURGERY SYMPOSIUM VIA VIRTUAL LECTURE
VITORIA, BRAZIL, June 30, 2023 – The Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery Symposium was graced by the distinguished presence of Professor David G. Armstrong, a globally acknowledged authority in the realm of diabetic foot and limb preservation. The Symposium, adapting to the new norms, opted for a hybrid format this year and took place in Vitoria, Brazil, hosting more than 200 vascular surgeons from the region.
Introduced by the co-chair of the session, Dr. Michael Childs, Dr. Armstrong, who holds the prominent positions of Director of the Southwestern Academic Limb Salvage Alliance and Founding President of the American Limb Preservation Society (ALPS), was showered with accolades for his substantial contributions to the medical field. “Professor Armstrong has taught us all. He has mentored and published more in the field of the diabetic foot and limb preservation than any other person,” expressed Dr. Childs, underlining the indelible influence of Dr. Armstrong’s work.
In his virtual lecture, aptly titled, “The Role of Translational Medicine in Limb Preservation”, Dr. Armstrong unveiled the transformative potential of translational medicine – the process of transforming scientific breakthroughs into health improvement – in redefining the paradigm of limb preservation.
The Symposium was led by eminent Professors Eliud Duarte, Giuliano Sandri, and Guilherme Luchine, each contributing their unique insights, thereby ensuring a dynamic and enlightening exchange of ideas.
Dr. Armstrong’s lecture has amplified the Symposium’s dedication to evolving knowledge and capabilities in vascular surgery and related disciplines. His expert insights have unquestionably heightened the recognition and understanding of the integral role translational medicine can assume in the sphere of limb preservation.

David G. Armstrong, DPM, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Surgery and Director of the Southwestern Academic Limb Salvage Alliance. Dr. Armstrong, a trailblazer in his field, has contributed over 650 peer-reviewed manuscripts. He is also the Founding President of the American Limb Preservation Society.
