ROCHESTER, MN – February 25, 2025 – Professor David G. Armstrong, DPM, MD, PhD, renowned expert in limb preservation and diabetic foot care, has become the first podiatric surgeon to deliver Medicine Grand Rounds at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Prof. Armstrong’s historic presentation, titled “Looking Back to Look Forward: Tissue Repair, Wound Healing, and the Diabetic Foot,” offered valuable insights into innovative approaches in wound management and limb preservation.
The symposium was hosted by Dr. Mark Melin, Director of the Wound Center at Mayo Clinic’s Gonda Vascular Center. Dr. Melin began the event by introducing esteemed guests participating in the Mayo Clinic Wound Symposium, including Professor Gary Sibbald from Toronto and Mayo’s own Professor Atta Behfar, cardiologist and prominent researcher.

Prof. Armstrong currently serves as Distinguished Professor of Surgery and Neurological Surgery at the University of Southern California and directs the NSF-funded Center to Stream Healthcare in Place (C2SHiP), focusing on innovative medical technologies and digital health interventions aimed at preventing amputations and enhancing patient outcomes worldwide.
