METFORMIN Improves Neuropathic pain:
AACE, 2012, Taylor; Abstract #255
Metformin is known to have anti oxidant properties due to which it may diminish severity of Neuropathic pain, independent of its effect on glycemic control. The investigators proposed that this might occur because metformin activates adenosine monophosphate activated protein kinase (AMPK); other AMPK activators reverse neuropathic pain in rodents.
