Chongqing, China – May 17, 2025 — In a ceremony held at the Chongqing Emergency Medical Center, part of Chongqing University Central Hospital, internationally renowned surgeon and diabetes specialist Professor David G. Armstrong was officially appointed as an Honorary Professor. The event underscored a deepening academic partnership between leading Chinese and international institutions working to eliminate preventable diabetes-related complications and amputations.
The appointment was presided over by Professor Li Chen, Co-Director of Chongqing University Central Hospital, and Professor Wuquan Deng, Vice President of the hospital and Director of the Chongqing Diabetic Foot Medical Research Centre.

Prof. Armstrong delivered a keynote lecture to faculty following the ceremony titled “The Diabetic Foot in Remission: Toward More User-Free and Activity-Rich Days,” calling for a paradigm shift from wound reaction to remission-driven prevention. His presentation addressed wearable diagnostics, smart offloading systems, and the role of system-level design in sustainable limb preservation.

The visit carried added personal meaning for Prof. Armstrong, who had previously mentored Prof. Deng during the latter’s academic exchange year at the University of Arizona.
“To see Professor Deng now emerge as a scientific and institutional leader is deeply life-affirming,” Armstrong reflected. “It is a full-circle moment that highlights the power of long-term academic collaboration.”
“Professor Armstrong’s visit marks a milestone for Chongqing’s international academic development,” added Prof. Deng. “His visionary work has shaped the way the world approaches the diabetic foot. We are proud to welcome him as an honorary professor and partner in research.”
The event also launched the FLOW & TOE Research Team, a joint initiative focused on functional limb outcomes, real-world data, and novel monitoring tools. The program is designed to drive collaborative innovation in diabetic foot prevention and management across Asia and North America.
