Los Angeles, CA — October 2025 — The Global Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Association has named Dr. David G. Armstrong as the recipient of the Global PAD Patient Champion of the Year award, recognizing his extraordinary dedication to advancing care, awareness, and advocacy for people living with PAD worldwide.
This patient-nominated honor celebrates Dr. Armstrong’s lifelong commitment to preventing amputations and improving quality of life for those affected by vascular disease. As Distinguished Professor of Surgery and Neurological Surgery at the University of Southern California (USC) and Director of the Southwestern Academic Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA), Dr. Armstrong has built international programs that unite clinicians, technologists, and policymakers toward a shared goal: ending preventable limb loss within a generation.
“This award is deeply meaningful because it comes from patients—the very people who inspire all of us to do better,” said Dr. Armstrong. “Every step preserved is a life extended. Our mission has always been to help people stay active, mobile, and engaged in their communities.”
Dr. Armstrong’s work spans more than 30 years and five continents, emphasizing patient-centered, team-based approaches to PAD and chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI). His advocacy has shaped international guidelines, driven equitable access to vascular care, and fostered interdisciplinary collaboration between vascular surgeons, podiatrists, diabetologists, and engineers.
The announcement was made as part of the Global PAD IMPACT Awards series, hosted by Kym McNicholas and co-hosted by last year’s winner, Dr. David Alper. It honors individuals and organizations making transformative contributions to limb preservation, patient education, and health equity. The livestream announcement and interview are available on YouTube via The Way to My Heart channel:
“Championing patients. Preserving limbs. Changing lives.” — that motto encapsulates Dr. Armstrong’s philosophy and the enduring mission of the global limb preservation community.
