Bangladesh Podiatry Society Celebrates One-Year Anniversary with Global Webinar #ActAgainstAmputation


Dhaka, Bangladesh – October 8, 2025 – The Bangladesh Podiatry Society marked its first anniversary today with a dynamic international webinar uniting clinicians, educators, and innovators from around the world. Hosted by Ekagra Health under the theme “Healing with Hope,” the event celebrated Bangladesh’s rapid progress in diabetic-foot care and limb preservation.

The hybrid program, held in Dhaka and streamed worldwide via Zoom, attracted more than 100 participants. Over the past year, the Society has trained more than 300 podiatrists, establishing a strong foundation for multidisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based practice throughout the country.


Domestic and International Collaboration

Opening remarks from Bangladeshi leaders outlined the Society’s impact on clinical service development and professional training. Magfur Alam, founder of Ekagra Health, moderated the event and emphasized the organization’s commitment to expanding podiatric education and integrating Bangladesh into the global community of limb-preservation specialists. He was joined by Dr. Morshed Uddin Akand, Dr. Chowdhury Rashedul Mughni, Dr. Nurul Alam, and other national leaders in podiatry and wound care.


International Speakers’ Panel

A distinguished panel of international experts shared insights on advances in wound care, vascular reconstruction, and team-based limb preservation practice:

  • Dr. David G. Armstrong, DPM, MSc, PhD, FRCP(Glasg) – Distinguished Professor of Surgery, University of Southern California; Co-Director, Southwestern Academic Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA)
  • Dr. Lee C. Rogers, DPM, FFPM RCPS(Glasg) – Chief of Podiatry, UT Health San Antonio; Former President, American Board of Podiatric Medicine
  • Dr. Matthew Regulski, DPM, FFPM RCPS(Glasg), DABMSP – Executive Board Member, Faculty of Podiatric Medicine, Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow
  • Liezl Naude – Senior Wound-Care Specialist, Eloquent Health, South Africa
  • Dr. Rudolf Weyergans – Pioneer in intermittent vacuum therapy wound-healing technologies, Germany

Key Highlights

Dr. Armstrong applauded the Society’s “great and good work,” noting that when podiatry is embedded within multidisciplinary care teams, amputation rates fall dramatically. Speakers throughout the program emphasized that Bangladesh is now poised to become a regional hub for training and innovation in limb preservation.
