Foot Care Fiasco– performing procedures versus preventing problems

I saw this letter to the editor today from a newspaper in Ontario, Canada and very much enjoyed the argument posed by the author. It strikes me that is an increasingly common phenomenon. When faced with budget cuts, preventative clinics are often the first to go. It is difficult to make the argument that one “prevented something” versus one “performed something”. It is this fight between procedure-based care and prevention-based care that is a tense one. I see it becoming ever more frequent as we move forward.
