Lima, Peru – November 2025

David G. Armstrong, DPM, MD, PhD, Distinguished Professor of Surgery and Neurological Surgery at the University of Southern California, delivered two featured lectures in Lima, Peru, highlighting the intersection of innovation, technology, and interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing chronic disease and diabetic foot care.

At the 2nd Congress on Research and Innovation in Noncommunicable Diseases, organized by the Peruvian Ministry of Health, the National Institute of Health, the CRONICAS Center of Excellence, the NCD Policy Lab, and the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), Professor Armstrong presented “Advancing Care Through Innovation: Integrating Technology and Science in Noncommunicable Disease Management.” His lecture emphasized how real-time monitoring, wearable technology, and data science can enhance care for people with chronic illness.

Later that day, at the CRONICAS / FootSelfie Symposium, he delivered “Global Advances in Limb Preservation and Interdisciplinary Care.” The symposium, “Interprofessional Advances and Challenges in the Prevention and Management of Diabetic Foot,” gathered healthcare leaders from across Latin America to discuss emerging digital solutions—such as smartphone-based imaging and remote monitoring platforms like FootSelfie—for preventing diabetic foot complications and amputations.

Together, these events underscored Peru’s growing leadership in biomedical innovation and reflected Armstrong’s broader mission to eliminate preventable amputations within the next generation through technology-enabled, team-based care.
